“The sound of the bombing was horrific but the sound of the books tearing apart was even louder.” — Samir Mansour
More Than Books
Samir Mansour is the owner of one of the biggest bookshops in Gaza. Located near Gaza’s universities, his place is a popular student hang-out. For 20 years, Samir has been dreaming of having the largest bookshop in Gaza, and worked hard almost his entire life. He was also dreaming of founding a publishing house to distribute valuable books. He speaks now about how, all of a sudden, Israeli bombs destroyed his bookshop entirely.
“One morning, I took a photo of my beautiful bookshop, and on another morning, I am taking a photo of my destroyed bookshop. The destination of passionate readers has been damaged. The sound of the bombing was horrific but the sound of the books tearing apart was even louder.” — Samir Mansour
