Emad Al-Bayya has brought the Maldives to Gaza.
A Tropical Escape in Gaza
Two million Palestinians are virtually ‘locked-up’ in Gaza, a tiny coastal enclave the size of Detroit or Belgrade. Many dream of going abroad, but have never been allowed to even visit other parts of their own country.
Emad Al-Bayya created an amazing escape, inspired by the Maldives, where people hang out and feel as if they’re visiting a remote tropical island.
This café has brought a taste of freedom and happiness to an area where people are desperate for some hope.
In May 2021, the café was damaged in an Israeli airstrike on a nearby target.
Everybody should have a life with dignity.
